Introducing Simon Vibert

Simon Vibert is husband to Carrie and father of Naomi, Daniella and Jacob.  I was Vicar of St Luke's Church, Wimbledon Park, but moved in July 2007 to become the Vice-Principal of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford.  Part of this new job will be to set up a Preaching School which reflects my own vision for preaching.  Controversy over the changes in direction at Wycliffe Hall have reached the national press.  Richard Turnbull has written an article about the changes at Wycliffe for the Guardian newspaper

My final reflections on parish life in Wimbledon and preparations for work in Oxford may be read here Amazing Grace

I grew up in the beautiful island of Jersey and became a Christian in my late teens.  I spent a formative year working as a junior staff member at St Helen's Bishopsgate, a church in the heart of London's financial district, and it was there, under Dick Lucas' ministry, that I first really felt that God continues to speak today when the Bible is simply retold and applied in a contemporary manner.  I had a short career in Natwest bank in Jersey before going to theological college to train for ordination.

I did a Curacy in Carlisle, then was for nearly 7 years in Buxton in Derbyshire and 8 and 1/2 years in Wimbledon.

I met my wife, Carrie, whilst at Oak Hill College where I completed my training for ministry. Further study has involved a M.Th. in New Testament from Glasgow University, and a D.Min from Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando Florida. The subject of my thesis was the teaching of Dr. John Piper.  Much of my book on Christian marriage (see below) is based on my D.Min. research.

I am the author of several articles and books. I contributed chapters to The Encyclopaedia of Bible Characters, The Way Forward (ed Tim Bradshaw) and the recently published Pulpit Journeys (Ed Geoffrey Stevenson).

My book The Diamond Marriage is published by Christian Focus and I am currently writing a book on John’s Gospel provisionally entitled Lives Jesus Changed.

I am chairman of the network Fellowship of Word and Spirit, and author of several of their publications. This group, formed in 1984, has a vision to be a fellowship of local church leaders providing each other with encouragement and support in applying the Bible systematically and radically to every area of life, in the power of the Holy Spirit. I am also a trustee of the Latimer Trust.

I am a Langham Trainer , this is an international partnership which has been set up out of respect of and appreciation for Dr John Stott's preaching ministry.  I have led seminars in Kenya, Tanzania Serbia and Croatia (December 2007)
